The Cheapest Apple Watch Ultra 3 Is the One Apple Sells

Apple's own website will tell you the Apple Watch Ultra 3 no longer exists. The watch page lists three models, Series 12, Ultra 4 and SE 3, and the Ultra buy page is headed Buy Apple Watch Ultra 4. Search for the Ultra 3 and the highest-ranking result that will actually sell you something sells you a different watch.

Apple is still selling the Ultra 3 all the same. It has just moved it two clicks away, into the refurbished store, at £559. That is less than any brand-new one I can find in Britain, and £190 under the Ultra 4. Here is the arithmetic, and whether the older watch is the one to buy.

Apple has not stopped selling the Apple Watch Ultra 3

The main Apple Watch page in the UK now lists Series 12, Ultra 4 and SE 3, and nothing else. The Ultra buy page starts at £749 for a 49mm case in Natural or Black titanium, GPS plus Cellular, with no GPS-only option anywhere on it. As far as the shop front is concerned, the Ultra 3 is gone.

Apple's UK refurbished store disagrees. It lists Apple Watch Ultra 3, GPS plus Cellular, 49mm, at £559, and says every refurbished Apple Watch is Apple-certified and comes with a one-year warranty. It sits alongside refurbished Series 11 at £279 for GPS, Series 10 from £239 and an SE 3 at £209.

None of that appears on the first page of Google for the Ultra 3. What you get instead is a Currys brand page with no prices on it, Apple's Ultra 4 buy page, Apple's tech specs sheet, a MacRumors roundup about the Ultra 4 and a Tom's Guide rumours article written before the Ultra 3 launched.

£559 refurbished from Apple beats £569.99 new

The cheapest new Ultra 3 I could find publicly listed is £569.99, for the 49mm GPS plus 5G with an Ocean Band, at Mobile Direct, across the 14 shops PriceSpy tracks for that configuration. Over the last three months the tracked range has been £569.99 to £609.99, so the £569.99 is the floor rather than a flash sale.

My arithmetic on that: Apple's refurbished price of £559 is £10.99 below the cheapest new one, or 1.93 per cent less. Once you add Apple's one-year warranty it stops being a close call at all.

That is a strange sentence to have to write about Apple, which is normally the most expensive place to buy anything it makes. It is also the single most useful thing anybody searching for this watch could be told, and page one does not tell them.

Apple quotes two different prices for the same watch

The refurbished listing says £559, marked down from £649. Apple's own newsroom post from 9 September 2025 put the Ultra 3 at £749 in the UK at launch, available from 19 September. Both figures are Apple's.

I am not going to split the difference. The likeliest reading is that the Ultra 3 was cut to £649 at some point during its year on sale and the refurbished page quotes the later figure, but Apple does not say so anywhere I can find. Treat the £649 as Apple's reference price, not as the price anyone paid in September 2025.

It matters because the advertised saving depends entirely on which number you start from. By my maths, £90 off £649 is 13.87 per cent. £559 against the £749 launch price is £190, or 25.37 per cent. Apple is quoting the smaller one.

The Ultra 4 costs exactly what the Ultra 3 cost

Apple Watch Ultra 4 is £749 and went on sale on 18 September 2026. The Ultra 3 launched at £749 on 19 September 2025. Same price, a year apart, which is worth saying out loud in a year when Apple has been perfectly willing to move prices upwards elsewhere in the range.

So this is not a story about the new one being overpriced. It is a story about the old one being quietly discounted by Apple itself while the internet argues about whether to upgrade.

What the extra £190 actually buys

Start with what has not changed between the two watches, taken from Apple's own spec sheets rather than anybody's summary of them.

• 49mm Grade 5 titanium case, Natural or Black, 44mm across
• 422 x 514 always-on display, up to 3,000 nits peak brightness
• 100m water resistance, IP6X dust resistance, recreational diving to 40m
• Satellite communications and 5G on the cellular model
• Hypertension notifications, sleep apnoea notifications, sleep score, ECG and blood oxygen

Now what did change:

• The S10 chip becomes the S11
• 42 hours of normal use becomes 50, and 72 hours in Low Power Mode becomes 84
• A new health sensing system: heart rate read every five seconds, HRV up to 24 times more often
• A Readiness score from 0 to 10, and daytime vitals rather than overnight only
• Fast charging, with 15 minutes adding up to 18 hours
• About 63g against 61.6 to 61.8g, so it is fractionally heavier

My arithmetic on the battery, since that is the headline change. Eight extra hours of quoted normal use for £190 works out at £23.75 an hour. Per hour of quoted normal use the Ultra 4 costs £14.98 and the refurbished Ultra 3 costs £13.31, so the older watch is 11.15 per cent cheaper per hour.

Put another way: the battery is up 19.05 per cent and Low Power Mode is up 16.67 per cent, against a price difference of 25.37 per cent. If battery life is the only thing you care about, the maths does not favour the new one.

Page one cannot agree on the battery figures

This is the part that convinced me the post was worth writing. Currys' Ultra 3 brand page quotes up to 42 hours. Currys' Ultra 4 asset page is titled Apple Watch Ultra 3 and quotes up to 45 hours of Max Extended Workout tracking. The MacRumors roundup snippet manages to attribute the eight-hour improvement to the Ultra 3 rather than the Ultra 4.

Apple's figures, for the avoidance of doubt. The Ultra 3 is 42 hours of normal use and 72 hours in Low Power Mode. The Ultra 4 is 50 hours of normal use, 84 hours in Low Power Mode, 45 hours Max Extended Workout and 25 hours Extended Workout.

So the 45 and the 50 are not the same measurement, and 45 is not an upgrade on 42. Anyone comparing 42 against 45 is putting everyday use next to a workout mode and calling it a three-hour gain.

Two more things worth knowing before you trust a listing. At least one page-one result credits the Ultra 3 with the S11 chip, when Apple's spec sheet says S10. And a Tom's Guide rumours article from 9 September 2025, published before the watch existed, is still ranking a year on and a fortnight after the Ultra 3 was replaced.

There is no cheap Apple Watch Ultra in the UK

Something people trip over when they come to the Ultra from a Series watch: there is no GPS-only Ultra. Every Ultra Apple has sold, refurbished stock included, is GPS plus Cellular. The £559 listing is a cellular watch whether you intend to put a SIM in it or not.

On a Series watch that lever exists. Apple's refurbished store has Series 11 at £279 for GPS and Series 10 from £239, and skipping cellular is how most people get the price down. On the Ultra there is nothing to skip.

My arithmetic on the alternative nobody offers you: the refurbished Ultra 3 at £559 is £1 more than two refurbished Series 11 GPS watches at £279 each. If what you actually want is a good fitness watch, and there are two of you, that is the comparison worth running. Buy the Ultra 3, or pay for the Ultra 4

Buy the refurbished Ultra 3 at £559 if you want an Ultra for the titanium case, the 3,000-nit display, the 40m dive rating and the satellite link. Every one of those is identical on the Ultra 4, and you are paying 25.37 per cent less with a year of Apple warranty behind you.

Pay £749 for the Ultra 4 if the battery is genuinely the point. Fifty hours against 42 is a real difference on a multi-day trip, the fast charge is useful if you sleep-track, and the new sensing system is the only part of this that a refurbished Ultra 3 cannot be updated into.

Do not pay £569.99 for a new Ultra 3. You are handing over £10.99 more than Apple asks for a weaker warranty. And do not pay anything approaching the £609.99 that configuration has touched in the last three months, because Apple's own price sits £50.99 under it.

Does Apple still sell the Apple Watch Ultra 3?

Not new. It is in the UK refurbished store at £559 as a 49mm GPS plus Cellular model, Apple-certified with a one-year warranty. It has been taken off the main Apple Watch line-up page, which now lists Series 12, Ultra 4 and SE 3 only.

Is the Apple Watch Ultra 3 still worth buying in 2026?

At £559 from Apple, for most people yes. The case, the display, the 40m dive rating, the satellite link, hypertension notifications and sleep score are all the same as the Ultra 4's. You give up eight hours of quoted battery life, the S11 chip and the new sensing features to save £190.

What is the real battery difference between the Ultra 3 and Ultra 4?

Apple quotes 42 hours of normal use for the Ultra 3 and 50 for the Ultra 4, and 72 against 84 hours in Low Power Mode. The Ultra 4 also quotes 45 hours in Max Extended Workout, which is a workout figure and not comparable with the Ultra 3's 42 hours of everyday use.

My take

The interesting thing here is not that last year's Ultra is cheaper. It is that the cheapest place in Britain to buy an Apple Watch Ultra 3 is Apple, which almost never happens, and that nothing on the first page of results for the watch will tell you so.

If you want the Ultra and you can live with 42 hours rather than 50, £559 with a year's warranty is the buy and I would not think about it for long. If you are the sort of person who genuinely needs the fifty, the Ultra 4 has not gone up in price, and that is the most generous thing I can find to say about a £749 watch.
