AirPods Pro 3 UK: Stop Buying These From Apple

Apple wants £219 for AirPods Pro 3. That is the figure on its UK store today, a full year after these went on sale, and it has not shifted by a penny in that time. The cheapest new pair in the UK this morning is £164.84.

So if you searched the AirPods Pro 3 UK price and landed on Apple's own page, you are looking at the single worst number available to you. Not by a rounding error either - by £54.16.

I checked every page-one result before writing this. The top three are Apple's product page, Apple's buy page and a shopping carousel. None of them tells you what the earbuds cost this week, and none of them tells you whether to buy the Pro at all.

The AirPods Pro 3 UK price, and the one Apple would rather you skipped

Apple UK lists AirPods Pro 3 at £219.00. That is the only price Apple has ever charged for them here, and Apple does not discount AirPods.

Third-party pricing is a different story. PriceSpy's UK listing tracks 15 shops and had the following when I checked on 15 September 2026:

• OnBuy - £164.84 new, price stated as applying until 31 December
• A1 Tech Deals - £174.99
• Amazon.co.uk - £179.00
• eBay - £179.00
• Joybuy - £179.00

There is also a £155.00 OnBuy listing, but that one is used rather than new. Worth knowing, easy to confuse with the £164.84 figure sitting just above it.

Here is my arithmetic on those numbers. Against Apple's £219.00, the cheapest new pair saves £54.16, which is 24.73% off. Amazon at £179.00 saves £40.00, or 18.26%. Even the third-cheapest seller on the list is £44.01 below Apple, at 20.1% off.

The point is not that one marketplace is cheap. It is that the entire third-party market has settled 18 to 25% below Apple, and Apple has not responded. On a product that is a year old, that spread is the story.

What £219 actually buys you over AirPods 5

Apple's AirPods page now leads with three families: AirPods 5, AirPods Pro 3 and AirPods Max 2. AirPods 4 and AirPods Pro 2 survive on the comparison tool but have dropped off the shop front. AirPods 5 sits at £119.00, or £139.00 with the Wireless Charging Case - I wrote about that launch when the date was still a rumour.

Worth noting: Apple's AirPods page was still showing a Pre-order button for AirPods 5 when I looked, not a Buy button. The Pro 3 is the pair you can have this week.

Pulling the two apart on Apple's own comparison figures:

• AirPods Pro 3 - up to 8 hours listening with ANC, up to 3x more Active Noise Cancellation, IP57, H2 chip
• AirPods 5 - up to 4 hours listening with ANC, up to 1.5x more Active Noise Cancellation, IP57, H2 chip

Same chip, same water rating, double the battery

Both run the H2. Both carry IP57. So the Pro premium is not buying you newer silicon and it is not buying you better dust or water resistance, which is how these comparisons usually get framed.

What it buys is twice the battery with noise cancelling on, roughly double the noise cancelling against the same baseline, the eartip seal that makes ANC work properly in the first place, heart rate sensing during workouts, and the hearing health features. Those are real. They are also the only things you are paying for.

My maths: the Pro premium halves the moment you leave Apple's store

This is the calculation nobody on page one runs, and it is the one that decides the purchase.

At Apple's prices, AirPods Pro 3 at £219.00 against AirPods 5 at £119.00 is a £100.00 gap. The Pro is 84.0% more expensive.

At street prices, the Pro at £164.84 against AirPods 5 at £119.00 is a £45.84 gap. The Pro is 38.5% more expensive.

So the premium falls from £100.00 to £45.84 - the gap shrinks by 54.2% - purely by not buying from Apple. Against AirPods 5 with the Wireless Charging Case at £139.00, the street Pro is only £25.84 more, or 18.6%. All of that is my own arithmetic on the prices above.

One more way to look at it, crude but useful. Divide the price by hours of listening with ANC on. The Pro at £164.84 works out at £20.61 per hour. AirPods 5 at £119.00 works out at £29.75 per hour. The expensive earbud is the cheaper one per hour of noise cancelling.

At Apple's £219.00 the Pro is £27.38 per hour, which lands close to the AirPods 5 figure and makes the choice genuinely arguable. That is the whole case for shopping around: it does not just save you money, it changes which pair is the right one.

Is anything better coming, or is this a safe week to buy?

AirPods Pro 3 launched on 9 September 2025 at £219, per Apple's own announcement. They are a year old, which would normally be the point where I tell you to wait.

Not this time. Apple's September 2026 event brought AirPods 5 and AirPods Max 2, and left the Pro line alone. MacRumors' AirPods Pro roundup says flatly that it is "unclear when a new model is coming", with camera AirPods pushed towards 2027 after the 9 September slip - I covered that delay here.

Small irony: that same roundup still calls the Pro 3 "brand new" and tells you now is a good time to buy. The advice holds. The reason it gives is twelve months out of date.

So there is no imminent replacement to wait for, which is rare for Apple hardware in September. If you want these, the only question left is who you buy them from.

The catch with the cheap listings

I am not going to pretend £164.84 from a marketplace is identical to £219.00 from Apple. It is not, and the differences matter for some people.

Apple's one-year hardware warranty follows the product, so that part is fine wherever you buy. Returns are not: a marketplace seller's returns window and process are theirs, not Apple's, and getting a faulty pair swapped is a slower conversation than walking into an Apple Store.

Check the listing says UK stock. Grey imports turn up on marketplaces at exactly these prices, and a pair sold for another region can complicate a warranty claim even when the hardware is identical.

If you were planning to insure them, AppleCare One covers AirPods alongside your other devices rather than as a separate policy, and I have run the UK numbers on that in a separate piece. Engraving, for what it is worth, is Apple-only and Apple-price-only.

Which AirPods should you buy in the UK right now

A clear answer, since page one refuses to give one.

• Buy AirPods Pro 3 at street price, around £165 to £179, if you want noise cancelling that actually works, a battery that lasts a working day, or the health features. At that price it is close to unarguable.
• Buy AirPods 5 at £119.00 if you dislike eartips, or you mostly listen at a desk and want something cheap that pairs instantly. Accept that the ANC is a fraction as strong and the battery is half.
• Buy AirPods 5 with the Wireless Charging Case at £139.00 only if you already own a Qi pad. Otherwise you are paying £20 for a charging method you will not use.
• Do not buy AirPods Pro 3 from Apple at £219.00 unless you specifically want engraving, or you want Apple handling any return.

Apple charges £219.00. The cheapest new UK price when I checked on 15 September 2026 was £164.84 at OnBuy, with Amazon.co.uk at £179.00. Apple has not discounted them since launch, so any saving comes from a third party.

Are AirPods Pro 3 worth it over AirPods 5?

At street prices, yes for most people - £45.84 more buys double the ANC battery and roughly double the noise cancelling, from the same H2 chip. At Apple's full £219.00 the £100.00 gap is much harder to justify, and AirPods 5 becomes the sensible pick.

Is an AirPods Pro 4 coming soon?

Nothing is confirmed. Apple did not touch the Pro line at its September 2026 event, and the camera AirPods that were expected have slipped towards 2027. There is no announced successor to wait for.

My take

AirPods Pro 3 are the right earbuds for most iPhone owners in the UK, and £219 is the wrong way to buy them. The hardware case has not changed in a year; what changed is that the market moved a quarter below Apple and Apple did not follow.

Buy them at £165 to £179 from a seller you are comfortable with, check the listing says UK stock, and ignore the fact that Apple's page is the one Google keeps putting first. If you cannot get comfortable with a marketplace, AirPods 5 at £119 is a better use of the money than the Pro at full price.
